A Blessing

Blessings come in different shapes and sizes, and often times, we overlook them because the blessing is not the one we wanted. Well, not too long ago, I found a posting on a blog I follow through my Google Reader, and the blogger was offering books on leadership for free. Hey, I’ll take a few free books! For whatever reason, I was selected as the winner.
The books came today, and I can’t wait to start reading through them. The only problem will be if I can find a time to read when I’m not so tired.

Maybe You Remember Shaun Groves

Back in the day, there was a song playing on Christian radio stations called, ‘Welcome Home.’ Do you remember it? Did you ever wonder what happened to the artist?

Well, Shaun Groves has continued to follow God’s will and acting on convictions given to him.

Need a blessing and an occasional foot stomping? Bookmark this link, and be a friend on Facebook with Shaun Groves. You won’t regret it.

There is even FREE music on his blog. Yes, I really did say FREE, and the music is excellent. It’s not throw-aways, but he is giving away the good stuff.

Update

We are still here. We are mostly on Facebook right now. Heather is working on starting her own blog, but she has been working a lot lately and so has not gotten going just yet.

Connor is about to start his 3rd season of soccer and is very excited. Brennan can’t wait to turn 4 so he can start soccer in the fall.

Hopefully, in the near future we can have this blog running on a more consistent basis.

Our Family

Well, this has been a good week for us, for the most part.

The boys have been obeying fairly well, school has been regular and accomplishing a lot, and I have just started using steroids.

I went to the doctor for the first time in over 2 years, and the doctor’s diagnosis was “allergies.” So, we’ll get you a steroid shot and you will feel better for months. The nurse comes in, “Here is the biggest needle we have like you asked, and it will go in your bottom.” “I would prefer the shot  in my arm.” “Sorry, this is just too much for your arm.” “Alright.”

We have been reading in Mark 5 during family worship time. This is a great passage about Jesus being stronger than nature, evil spirits, sickness and death. Tonight we ended our Bible time with a great discussion about heaven. Connor didn’t want to go to heaven because he has so much fun here. We told him that God is pleased that he is enjoying his life here so much, but that it will be so much greater to be in heaven with our Savior.  That he will get to worship Jesus with him right there in front of us, Jesus will give us new bodies that won’t hurt or get tired or sickness, that Jesus will probably give Connor a special job in heaven and, Connor’s favorite part, that the streets in heaven will be made of gold. “Why gold?” “It’s valuable. Precious. Beautiful.” “I want to see the streets made of gold!”

We are using “The Adventure Bible [NIRV],” “Truth and Grace Memory Books,” and songs from the Cedarmont Worship albums for kids in our family worship. The Adventure Bible is an early reader translation and makes it easier for Connor especially to understand the text. The Truth and Grace Memory Books are for catechism teaching biblical and theological truths. The worship albums are great songs sung by kids which make it more enjoyable for the boys. The boys always look forward to this time, and always want to have family worship time before they go to bed.

Is the Church Christ-Centered?

This is something I wrote one night while thinking about the church.

Why do we talk so much about what the devil doesn’t like? Are we seeking to displease the devil or glorify God? Are we seeking to make the devil mad or are we seeking to be pleasing to God? Are we seeking to keep the devil from snuffing out our light, or are we seeking to be a light for Jesus?

The church ought to be Christ-centered!

We should focus and talk about Jesus and His kingdom more than Satan!
